PDPS Talk & Reception: Turn Again to the Earth
Join Dr. Kevin Tervala, Eddie C. and C. Sylvia Brown Chief Curator, and Dr. Lara Yeager-Crasselt, Curator and Department Head of European Painting and Sculpture, for an in-depth tour of the exhibitions Air Quality: The Influence of Smog on European Modernism and Watershed: Transforming the Landscape in Early Modern Dutch Art, both part of the BMA’s Turn Again to the Earth initiative.
The curators will discuss how burning fossil fuels, particularly coal, influenced European modernism and how depictions of the early modern Dutch landscape reflect the environmental, economic, and social changes occurring at the water’s edge. Each exhibition, drawn from the BMA’s collection, offers a unique examination of artists’ responses to industrial and societal shifts.
Following the tour, please join us for a reception in the Joseph Education Center.
